Can't wait to get the craft room put together, but my main focus has been on the kitchen, main bath and living room to this point. My plan for this coming weekend is my bedroom and Ethan's bedrooms... while the beds are already in, everything else is still in boxes in the corners... must get that remedied soon!Wannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15980304119922516476noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7043321343283059872.post-50665678213707700992008-08-27T23:48:00.012-05:002008-08-28T16:08:52.058-05:00Catching UpHello again.

Once again I have taken way too long to post on here, but I'm back and have a list things to share.

House Hunting!
My hunny, the kiddo, and I are looking for a place to live, but it just seems so hard to find a place that we all like and that we know we will be able to afford. I found a place that I absolutely loved and while I know we can afford it when the hunny is working, he is laid off about 1/2 the year and the kiddo's child support is rare. So we keep looking, hoping to find something that we know we can afford even on those really bad months and yet has enough space for the 3 of us. NOT an easy task in this town. I just keep reminding myself that everything will work out the way it is supposed to.

The Kiddo!
My kiddo started 3rd grade this past Monday. The time seems to go by way too quickly. This past weekend he ran in his first 5K Race. Ethan's best friend, Jimmy had an older sister who died in 2004 at the age of 6, from a brain tumor. This year was the 2nd annual Paulina Cooper Dot to Dot 5K in Overland Park, Kansas to benefit pediatric brain tumor research . His time was 53 minutes 16 seconds. I realize that isn't the best of times, but I was so impressed that he finished. Here he is, almost to the finish line. His buddy Jimmy took 2nd in their age group and his buddy Stephen took 3rd for their age group.

I didn't run this year, I've been having problems with a pinched nerve in my back, so instead I just helped along the race route, but I really hope that next year I can run with the Kiddo.

A Gift from My Hunny!
Every year at the end of July downtown Lawrence has a huge sidewalk sale. Every single store in downtown Lawrence puts items on sale and the town swamps Massachussets street in search of the annual bargains. I avoid this for the most part... I can not stand the crowds, elbowing and shoving for a few dollars off some item. But this year around 7:00 in the evening my hunny said, so aren't we going to go to the sidewalk sale? So off we went... and as is usual for me, I conveniently always find a parking spot right in front of the Yarn Barn. So we go in and I start browsing the sale yarn. After about 15 minutes my hunny returns from wherever he had disappeared to and starts asking me to tell him about drumcarders... how often would I use one, how long do they last, have I ever seen any used ones for sale, etc. Next thing I know he is buying me this...

So I am now the proud owner of an Ashford Drum Carder. I have been having SOOOOO much fun with it. This was my early birthday present!!

A finished Object!
I've been on a major spinning spree lately... so the majority of the finished objects I have to share is yarn. There is too much to share all in one posting, so I'll just spread it out over a few postings.

In May my mom and I went to a little fiber fest in Mission, Kansas. She purchased a bag of misc. wool locks that had been naturally died with plants and she bought a bag of natural white merino. The plan of course was that I would spin it for her, but I was at a loss for HOW. Some of the died locks were slightly felted from their dying and there was a fair amount of vegetable matter. I had no clue how to deal with this. The Yarn Barn had a Spinning Open Study in July and I took the bags with me to ask the others what to do. The instructor suggested that I take advantage of the available drum carder. So I spent about an hour running the locks through the carder, and then about another half hour blending the dyed fibers with the natural colored merino. Then I began spinning it...the result was a slightly tweed looking green single... but it just seemed to need something a little different, so I bought more natural white colored merino and spun up an equal amount and then plied it with the green. The result was a really nice green and white tweed looking yarn.

Name - Handspun: Green/White Tweed

Made for - Mom
Specs - 775 yards Worsted (12WPI)

Project Started - July 12, 2008
Project Finished - August 13, 2008

This was one of my WIP Wrestling projects for the Ravelympics

Next Time:
More finished objects, another gift from my hunny, and hopefully I'll have a house to tell you about.
Wannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15980304119922516476noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7043321343283059872.post-81533907604958562892008-06-25T15:00:00.002-05:002008-06-25T15:02:18.614-05:00How do you score??Thought this was too cute and just had to share!

49

As a 1930s wife, I am
Average

Take the test!

I figured I would score as "horrible" or something...Wannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15980304119922516476noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7043321343283059872.post-47170733156906944082008-06-23T18:36:00.006-05:002008-06-23T19:19:48.642-05:00Project UpdatesHello all!

Progress is being made on projects... I just keep getting interested in too many other things. I only have about 9 more rows before I start the toe decreases. So it shouldn't be too much longer now. I mainly only work on these when I'm in a restaurant waiting on my food, or in a meeting, or something where I need simple small work so I only get a few rows done at a time.

I have also started knitting two different projects using my handspun yarn.

First is the Swirl Shawl using my "Pumpkin Latte" and "Cream Yak"

Then last night I started the Seascape Wrap from the newest edition of Knitty. So we have been looking for places to live... I know I should be enjoying house hunting, but I really find it exhausting and frustrating... and it keeps taking time away from my knitting and spinning. The extra payday curse hit last week, you know, the one where every single time you have an extra pay day something big WILL go wrong. Friday evening while driving my son to his baseball game the transmission on my van gave out. So over the weekend Istarted searching for a vehicle... which has proved WAY easier than house hunting. I test drove a 2004 Buick Century over the weekend to see if I liked it or not. It's incredibly nice and I like it a LOT. But I'm scared to death, I've always just paid cash for my vehicles and have NEVER had a car payment... can you believe that... 34 and never had a car payment... ODD. I go to pick it up tomorrow afternoon. My gut keeps rolling because I'm so scared about buying this car... On the knitting front. It's so weird to think about going away without my son, but it will be good for me.

I got quite a bit of work done on the 2nd of my Panda Charade socks over the weekend. I did the last 6 rows of the cuff, did the heel flap, turned the heel, picked up the gusset and am now flying down the foot portion. This is where I get burned out though. Making socks long enough for my size 12 feet is BORING! But, I keep telling myself that I REALLY want pink socks so I need to hurry up. More importantly I need them finished before I leave Wichita to come back home on Thursday. These socks are the February socks for On Your Toes Sock-of-the-Month Club at Twist. I'm not sure why either of us stayed with the other. You know how some people are just poison for each other? Well that was us. We broke up in August of '98 and in December of '98 I got pregnant... no you aren't reading incorrectly. We did that "let's get together and talk things out" thing... and well, there wasn't much talking... but I have an amazing child, so in the end it was all worth it.

Ever since then though I realized that maybe I had a problem with "needing" men. So I decided that I needed to spend a little time on my own... figure out who Lawanna was... and then of course figure out who Ethan's mom was...

I NEVER meant for it to be an 8 year hiatus. Sure I went on a few dates (literally only a handful in all that time)... but just never was interested, or maybe I just didn't trust myself to be with a man. I'm not exactly sure. I was starting to realize though that I was perfectly fine without a man in my life. Honestly, the only thing that has been a constant "want" in my life was a child and I had that. I didn't know how to meet guys anymore, the bar scene SUCKED... my job is definitely not conducive to meeting people at work... and it is amazing how hard it is to meet other people when you stay home with your child all the time. Crazy!!!

My mom evidently was not convinced by my "I don't need a man" act... frankly I wasn't either. She announced one day that she was going to get me a membership to eHarmony for my birthday. UGGH! That was in August 2006. So I filled out all the questionnaires and started talking to a few people, but again had the same problem that I had in real life, as soon as men notice that I'm a big girl, they immediately are not interested. I did meet a few guys who didn't seem to care, but nothing ever came of it... very nice men, just not for me.

My 3 month subscription ran out and the broke pessimist in me decided to not renew... eHarmony has free communication weekends though; typically on holiday weekends, and I would see what activity there was during those times. I eventually put a note on my profile that read "It is important to know that I am not a skinny girl... and frankly, probably never will be. I'm a great person, funny, hard working, with a lot of love to give to the right person, and not ugly by any means, but if you are a person who can't look at the whole person, and only want to be with a skinny girl, then I am not the girl for you." Well, it definitely reduced the number of messages that I had to read.

Then Labor Day weekend 2007 came and I had way too much to do to spend the weekend online answering messages from eHarmony... that is until I came down with bronchitis. I was so sick that I couldn't bring myself to leave the house. So why not? I might as well do something to entertain myself for the long weekend. So I sat in my favorite chair, knitting, and napping, and answering messages from this guy in Topeka... Scott.

Scott's profile described him in the normal blah blah blah way... but it had certain things I was looking for... positive answers about children and an apparent job. One of the 5 things he had listed under "Can not live without section" was peanut butter and jelly sandwiches... now while that may not mean much to most people, it told me that he was simple... Under the title that says "The one thing Scott wishes MORE people would notice about him is", his answer was "my eyes"... oh really???? Now I have this thing for eyes... even if a man isn't necessarily attractive I go gaga for deep intense eyes. Ray Liotta or Brian Bloom eyes.

We spent the whole weekend talking on email and chat... and finally started talking on the phone Sunday night... and all day Monday we talked on the phone and email. We talked about so many things that I can't even recall most of them... but I had to admit that I was happy that I had been sick so I had a chance to meet him.

And he didn't care about my not being skinny...

When we met for the first time, part of me was scared to death... but part of me was just going to meet someone that I seemed to have known for years.

When he first met Ethan they were immediate "buds". Scott walked up behind me while I was talking to Ethan and scared the holy moly out of me... which Ethan of course thought was too cool, and ever since they have enjoyed taking turns scaring me, tickling me, pestering me...

This man has been amazing... whenever he is off of work he stays at our house so that he and I get as much time as possible together, without me having to leave Ethan too much... please remember that Ethan and I live with my parents... He is wonderful in the fact that 90% of our dates include Ethan. I have this incredible respect for the fact that he not only has stuck with me and all my weirdness, and accepted that in a way he is dating my son and I as a package, but that he also is dating my parents in a way... I know, that is an odd way to think about it... but in all reality, how many men would put up with all that?

I'm not saying he is perfect, he definitely has his issues... but I am so lucky to have this man who accepts me for who I am, and is willing to have to "work" at spending time with me.

Now if I could just get him to pose for a picture so I would have something better to show you than this picture that I had to sneak...

We've just recently started our marriage prep stuff... more on that later!

Wannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15980304119922516476noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7043321343283059872.post-15688651136378206002008-04-18T12:10:00.012-05:002008-04-19T01:23:37.737-05:00Spinning, Deltora & Yarn!!!So one of the things that I still need to do a catch-up on here is my knitting stuff... but the thing that I'm absolutely addicted to right now is spinning.

This all started last fall... I wanted to learn more about the yarn I was using for knitting, and thought that it would be fun to take a spinning class. So I signed up at The Yarn Barn (our local yarn store) and took a class. I was fascinated with this process and bought a couple of spindles and some fiber to play around with at home. While I have finally started making decent yarn on the spindle, I just did not enjoy it like I did with the spinning wheel in class. So in February I decided to take another class. It was about how to create the types of yarn that I wanted rather than accepting the yarn that I ended up with. And I wanted more! I have now taken my third spinning class and...

My hunny got me this lovely Schacht Ladybug on March 29th. Since then I can NOT quit spinning... I am totally addicted.

My son, Ethan and I live with my parents currently, and almost every evening we read together as a family. We are currently reading the Deltora Series by Emily Rodda.

When we first started reading this young readers series, I was reading it to Ethan, then my mom was listening in since she was in the same room and got hooked on the story, then she told my dad to sit and listen one evening and he was hooked too. So for awhile Mom would crochet, Dad would lean back in his chair and Ethan would cuddle on my lap while I read the story. My father has an amazing voice, so Mom suggested one night that Dad read. That night worked on a sock I was knitting while he read and it was amazing how much knitting I got done in that hour. So we continued with him reading the next night, and every night since. There have been nights that all of sudden we realize we have been reading for 2 hours. So now we stick to a maximum of 4 chapters (well, with some exceptions) per night.

Once I got my spinning wheel though I started spinning while listening to Dad read... and talk about relaxing. Listening to my father read us the story of Lief, Jasmine & Barda as they battle the Shadow Lord in the magical land of Deltora while letting the fibers slip through my fingers into the twist and making it yarn. I know, I'm weird, but it is the best thing for letting the "blah's" of the day slip away.

So what am I making? Here are some of my yarns that I've made in the last 3 weeks.

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; I currently coach his bowling and baseball teams, but stick to the bleachers during basketball. He LOVES it. As a non-bowler, I don't get it, but he is downright amazing with a bowling ball and loves to bowl on his youth league and in tournaments. He won his first college scholarship when he was in Kindergarten when he placed 2nd in the local scholarship tournament (the amazing part, all the other bowlers were in high school!!!). Especially the basketball team. Well, last night was the NCAA National Championship game. KU vs. Memphis. What an amazing game! When there was about 1 minute left in the game and the Jayhawks were behind, I looked at my dad and said "We are going to overtime". His response was that he could handle that. I just knew in my heart that it wasn't over. And it wasn't. WOW, what an amazing game. It may have taken them 20 years to get another National Championship, but it has been a blast watching them work towards this.

Congratulations Jayhawks, we are all incredibly proud of you!

While watching the game I finished a project that I've been working on throughout the last two weeks while watching the Jayhawks play.

This is Karaoke Soysilk in the Mermaid Colorway by Louet. Tonight, I WILL post at least a little to start catching this up.Wannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15980304119922516476noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7043321343283059872.post-26255723000735111682007-07-11T23:15:00.000-05:002007-07-11T23:22:17.140-05:00Finally!Well, I've been messing around on here for over a month now and I always get busy reading other blogs and not writing my own, so I decided that it is finally time to start.

So while I don't really have anything to say today, at least I can say I have finally done the first post to my blog. I wonder how long I will keep up with this.

I guess that will depend on if anyone ever reads this.

My goal is to list all my current knitting projects that are on the needles sometime this weekend. So if you do see this for some odd reason, check back after this weekend and see what I have going on.

Bye for now!
Wanna
Wannahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15980304119922516476noreply@blogger.com0
